Single-family detached house at Camp de les Abellanes

Arinsal. La Massana. ANDORRA

Single-family detached house built at El Camp de les Abellanes, above the town of Arinsal, in the Parish of La Massana, Principality of Andorra, with a built area of 626.87 m2 on a plot of 866.49 m2. The residence is located in a sunny spot and has good views.

The property has two floors plus a basement for parking. It has two entrances: one for vehicles that leads to the garage, and another pedestrian access to the highest point on the street, which leads to the garden on the ground floor via a stairway.

Much of the plot is assigned as an area with a high risk of avalanches, a parameter that played an important part in establishing the location and in the design of the residence. Both this and providing residents with full enjoyment of the front garden determined the building's location on the right side of the plot.

The volumes are conditioned by the need to articulate the house from a wall. This wall gives rise to the property's different volumes. Different façade materials have also been used to further differentiate each part.

This differentiation of spaces has also been expressed inside the property to yield diverse areas, each with their own identity. A double room with a large window looks out onto the views outside and overlooks the pool while visually connecting with the library on the first floor. Another large window dominates the main suite, set in a raised body on the first floor projecting over the garden.

Project Undertaken: October 2010.
